Actions

Vitamin A is effective for the treatment of Vitamin A deficiency. Vitamin A refers to a group of fat-soluble substances that are structurally related to and possess the biological activity of the parent substance of the group called all-trans retinol or retinol. 

Dosage/Dosage form

500,000 u/day for 3 days per oral.

Therapeutic uses

For the treatment of vitamin A deficiency.

Adverse effects/Side effects

SC swelling, fatigue, hepatosplenomegaly, irritability, low grade fever, anorexia, skin changes, weight loss, vomiting & other GI disturbances, alopecia, dry hair, crackling & bleeding lips, nocturia, pains in bones & joints

Interaction

  • Decreased absorption with neomycin.
  • Increased risk of toxicity when used with alcohol.

Contraindications

Hypervitaminosus A; pregnancy
