On the occasion of the International Women’s Health Day observed on May 28, doctors are concerned on the struggle by women to keep up their day to day activities and remain in good health.
“It's time to take care of the women in you”, said Dr. Gowri Kulkarni, head of operations, DocsApp, adding that it is generally the woman in the family who takes care of everyone’s health. But, in the course of doing so, they generally cease to take care of their own.
Studies suggest that women are more prone to ailments. There are certain ailments which specifically attack women, about which they generally choose to be ignorant. Therefore regular checkups would keep a woman healthy and thus, keep the family healthy too, she added.
While 1 in every 8 women is prone to breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, an ultra sono mammography every 2-3 years would enable early detection. In the case of cervical cancer 1 million cases are reported annually and higher in women over 30 years. Therefore a check-up is recommended every 2 years, added Dr. Kulkarni.
According to Dr. Parul Sehgal, Fertility Consultant , Nova IVI Fertility, there are women struggling to become a mother. Infertility affects even young women, causing emotional pain and distress to the couple. Although infertility is equally prevalent among men and women, the greater burden to bear a child rests on women.
It is also important to support all the women who have had miscarriages or lost a child. It is also important for women to take good care of their health, get rid of bad habits, and lead a healthy and balanced lifestyle. A woman should give priority to her health before, during and after pregnancy, as a healthy mother will always raise a healthy family,” noted Dr. Shegal.
