Description

1.0    PURPOSE:

To describe a  standard operating procedure for dechocking   of impeller & replacing  corroded impeller / refixing of  loosened impeller of pumps.

2.0    SCOPE:

The standard operating procedure describes in detail the method of  dechocking  of  impeller & replacing  corroded  impeller  / refixing  of loosened impeller of pumps in the plant.

3.0    RESPONSIBILITY:

The  responsibility of dechocking of impeller & replacing  corroded  impeller / refixing of loosened impeller of  pumps  lies with the staff of rank not lower than supervisor of maintenance department.

The  responsibility of preparing, reviewing  and approving  the standard  operating  procedure lies with the  Manager  -  Maintenance,  Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.

4.0    METHOD:

4.1    Isolate the equipment electrically.

4.2    Close the suction and discharge valves. Drain the material from the pump suction casing.

4.3    Remove the suction cover by removing the studs.

4.4    Remove the lock nut of the impeller and remove the impeller.

4.5    If the impeller is chocked, dechock the impeller using sharp edged metal rod.

4.6    Incase the impeller is loosened from the shaft, check the locking key and lock nut. If the lock nut and key are loose replace them. If the impeller bore or shaft are worn out, replace the impeller or the shaft as required.

4.7    Fix  the impeller with new lock key (if the old lock  key  worn out).

4.8    Lock the impeller with lock nut.

4.9    Check  the gasket of the suction cover. If it is  damaged   replace it as per the SOP No.SOP/MT/006R3.

4.10    Fix the suction cover.

4.11    Open the suction and discharge valves.

4.12    Restore the power supply to the equipment.

4.13    Switch on the pump and check the functioning of pump to the desired levels.

4.14    Record the replacement data of impeller/shaft in the history card of the equipment.

5.0    RECORDING:

The responsibility of recording the details in the equipment history card lies with the staff of rank not lower than the Maintenance supervisor.
