Description

Adult panic anxiety syndrome

It is a psychiatric disorder characterized by recurring episodes of anxiety and debilitating fear known as panic attacks. These can occur without warning and in the absence of any observable threat. Panic attacks can be long-lasting or brief and are often accompanied by physical symptoms, such as chest pain, dizziness, nausea, racing heart, shortness of breath, and sweating.

Symptoms: Chest pain, depressed mood, Anxiety, Fear or anxiety about being alone, Difficulty concentrating, Fear or anxiety about leaving home, Irritability and mood changes,  Headache.

Treatment: Antidepressants are used to treat adult panic anxiety syndrome. Other medications may be used in severe cases or if antidepressants do not help.

  1. Benzodiazepines (antianxiety medications), such as alprazolam, clonazepam, and lorazepam
  2. Gabapentin (Neurontin), an anticonvulsant
  3. Beta-blockers such as Propranolol  to relieve symptoms
  4. Monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressants, such as isocarboxazid , phenelzine, and tranylcypromine
  5. Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) antidepressants, such as duloxetine,  desvenlafaxine , or venlafaxine
  6. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressants, such as fluoxetine, escitalopram, and sertraline
  7. Tricyclic antidepressants, such as amitriptyline, doxepin, and imipramine
