Appendicitis
It is an inflammation of the appendix; Appendicitis is a medical emergency that requires prompt surgery to remove the appendix. Appendix is a 3 1/2-inch-long tube of tissue that extends from the large intestine.
Left untreated, an inflamed appendix will eventually perforate or burst, spilling infectious materials into the abdominal cavity. This can be leads to peritonitis; it is a serious inflammation of the abdominal cavity's lining (the peritoneum) that can be fatal unless it is treated quickly with strong antibiotics.
Causes of Appendicitis: A foreign body, when the appendix becomes blocked, it occurs often by stool or cancer.
Symptoms of appendicitis: Gallbladder problems, Crohn's disease, urinary tract infection, gastritis, intestinal infection, and ovary problems.
Diagnosis: Blood test, rectal exam, abdominal exam for the detection of inflammation, Urine test, CT scans and/or ultrasound.
Prevention: There is no prevention for appendicitis. However, appendicitis is less common in people who eat foods high in fiber, such as fresh fruits and vegetables.
