1.0 PURPOSE:
To describe a standard operating procedure for breakdown rectification of an air compressor.
2.0 SCOPE:
The standard operating procedure describes in detail the method for breakdown rectification of an air compressor.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
The responsibility of breakdown rectification of an air compressor lies with the staff of rank not lower than the junior utility operator.
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the standard operating procedure lies with the Manager - Maintenance, Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
4.0 METHOD:
4.1 Air pressure not developing.
4.1.1 Isolate the equipment electrically and remove the side covers of the cylinder head.
4.1.2 Unscrew the bolts and remove the unloaders replace them if found defective.
4.1.3 Check the Teflon rings and replace if found wornout.
4.1.4. Unscrew both suction and delivery valves and remove them.
4.1.5 Dismantle the valves and check for the condition of valve strips, if found defective replace them.
4.1.6 Reassemble the valves.
4.1.7 Fix the valves in position, tighten the screws.
4.1.8 Refix the unloaders to the valve plates.
4.1.9 Clean the side covers and cylinder head with emery paper and place the side covers with new gasket.
4.1.10 Tighten all the bolts.
4.1.11 Unscrew and remove the suction air filter.
4.1.12 Check the condition of the filter. Replace the filter if found defective.
4.1.13 Clean the filter by blowing air from inside out.
4.1.14 Place the filter and fix the filter head.
4.1.15 Restore the power supply to equipment.
4.1.16 Start the compressor and observe the leaks, rectify the leaks if any.
4.1.17 Still if the compressor is not developing the air, call for an external service men from an authorised air compressor servicing agency.
5.0 RECORDING
The responsibility of recording the breakdown in the history card lies with the staff of rank not lower than the maintenance supervisor.
