Calibration of JASCO FT IR 410 Spectrometer

1.0        PURPOSE

1.1    To lay down the procedure for Calibration of JASCO FT /IR-410 Spectrometer. 

2.0    SCOPE

2.1         This SOP is applicable for Calibration of JASCO FT / IR-410 Spectrometer in quality control.

5.0    PROCEDURE
5.1    Operate the instrument as per the respective SOP for operation. The calibration procedure of  IR / FTIR includes the parameters;  
                          BACKGROUND, WAVENUMBER REPEATIBILITY/ACCURACY and 
             RESOLUTION.
5.1.1    Double click on JASCO FT / IR Icon on the desktop. Maximize the      
                                  SPECTRA MANAGER window.
5.1.2    Double click on Validation Icon. Validation Program –FT/IR-410 pops up on the screen.
5.1.3    BACKGROUND
5.1.3.1    Double click on Background icon. A dialog box appears prompting to make sure the chamber is empty. Click on ok. The Instrument scans the background and displays the background %T at the wave numbers 3000,2000,1600 and 1000 cm-1. Click on the print pushbutton, enter the operator name, date, temperature and humidity values and then again click on the print pushbutton. Enter the result of background scan in Format No. xxxxx
5.1.4    WAVENUMBER REPEATABILITY/ACCURACY

5.1.4.1    Double-Click on the Validation icon and then double click on Wave number repeatability icon. A series of   dialog boxes 
appear  guiding through the process of wave number   repeatability/ accuracy check for wave numbers 3060,2849.5,   
1942.9,1601.2, 1583.0, 1154.5 and 1028.3 cm-1 for the polystyrene film. Follow the instructions and take out the  print  out of the  result. Record the details in Format No. xxxxx

5.1.5    RESOLUTION

5.1.5.1    Double-Click on the Validation icon and then double click             on  Resolution icon. A series of   dialog boxes appear guiding through the process of Resolution check in the regions between 2851 and 2870 cm-1 and 1583 and 1589 cm-1.
Follow the instructions and take out the print out of the            result. Record the details in Format No. xxxxx
              
5.1.6    ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA:

5.1.6.1As included in the Format No. xxxxx for all the tests.

5.2    If the IR/FTIR system has no in built validation / calibration packages than perform the all above test manually as per instrument instruction manual.

5.3    FREQUENCY  OF CALIBRATION:    Once in a three months.
