CALIBRATION OF STORAGE TANKS

Description

1.0 PURPOSE:
    
    To  describe  standard operating procedure for calibration  of  storage tanks. 
    
2.0    SCOPE:
    
    The standard  operating  procedure describes  in  detail  the   method of calibrating the storage tanks.             
    
3.0    RESPONSIBILITY:
    
    The responsibility  of calibrating the storage tanks lies with  the  staff of rank not lower than the maintenance engineer  of  maintenance department. 
        
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing  and approving  the  standard  operating  procedure lies with the Manager  -  Maintenance,  Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
    
4.0    METHOD:
    
4.1        Select the tank to be calibrated.

4.2         Ensure the tank is empty.                                

4.3         Close the outlet valve.                                

4.4    Connect a line flow meter after the outlet valve.

4.5    Fill the tank with water to its capacity with flow-meter in the inlet line and mark the level on the level indicator.

4.6        Open the outlet valve and measure the discharge for the required minimum graduation and mark the same on level indicator.

4.7     Repeat the above step till the tank is empty.

4.8    Now the tank is fully calibrated and the marking is made on the level indicator.
    
4.9    Record the details of calibration in an Annexure-I.
    
4.10    Frequency: once in a year ± 15 days.
    
5.0        RECORDING :

    The responsibility of recording the details in Annexure-I lies with the staff of rank not lower than the supervisor of maintenance department.
