Description

1.0    PURPOSE:

1.1    To lay down the procedure for handling and storage of volumetric solutions.

2.0    SCOPE:

2.1    This SOP is applicable for Quality control department.

3.0    RESPONSIBILITY:

3.1    Jr.Assistant/Sr.Assistant - QC

4.0    ACCOUNTABILITY:

4.1     Executive - QC

5.0    PROCEDURE

5.1    Volumetric solutions preparation and standardization by using purified water.
5.2    The concentration of volumetric solutions are indicated in terms of normality /molarity.
5.3    Prepare the solutions that does not differ from the prescribed strength by more   than 10%of Normality/ Molarity and standardize it in triplicate does not differ not more than 0.2% of deviation in Normality/ Molarity.
5.4    The prepared volumetric solutions should be stored for 24 hours before standardization.

5.4.1    Check the solutions before using the solutions showing any physical change like sedimentation, discoloration, and crystallization.

5.5    Store the solutions in glass bottles.

5.5.1    The frequency for preparation of the volumetric solution is monthly   once and for Standardization is once in a fifteen days.

5.5.2    If the volumetric solution is consumed totally before the validity period, prepare the solution afresh.
5.5.3    After expiry period of the solution, discard the solution by drain it through tap water.

5.6    Volumetric solution shall be labeled as per annexure – I
5.7    Volumetric solutions shall be stored in a designated area.
5.8    All volumetric solution preparations and standardizations enter in to a notebook.
5.9    Volumetric solutions numbering system containing two parts as described below.

5.9.1    First part (two digits) containing group identification of volumetric solutions.
5.9.2    Second part (three digits) containing volumetric solutions identification number as per annexure - 3.

5.10    All volumetric solutions must be prepared, standardized and used at ambient temperature unless otherwise specified.
