1.0 PURPOSE:
To describe a standard operating procedure (SOP) to handle power failures.
2.0 SCOPE:
The SOP describes in detail the method of handling power failure.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
The responsibility of handling power failure as per the SOP lies with the staff of the rank not lower than operator of the production department.
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the SOP lies with the Officer (Production), Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
4.0 METHOD:
4.1 Whenever the power fails the electrician shall start diesel generator set (DG set) immediately.
4. 2 On power failure the shift incharge shall ensure that every reactor utility valves are closed.
4. 3 Every possible care is to be taken when vacuum and steam operations are going on.
4. 4 On resumption of power, operator shall start stirrers one after other with a gap of 20 seconds to avoid overloading.
4.5 Check each reactor for abnormality.
4.6 If no abnormality is noticed proceed with operation.
4.7 If any abnormality is there inform supervisor and proceed as per his instructions.
5.0 RECORDING:
The power failure duration and abnormalities if any will be recorded in the log book and batch manufacturing sheet respectively by supervisor/opertor.
