1.0 PURPOSE:
To describe a standard operating procedure for hydraulic testing of the reactor jacket.
2.0 SCOPE:
The standard operating procedure describes in detail the method of hydraulic testing of the reactor jacket.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
The responsibility of carryingout hydraulic test of the reactor jacket lies with the staff of rank not lower than the junior utility operator of maintenance department.
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the standard operating procedure lies with the Manager - Maintenance, Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
4.0 METHOD:
4.1 Isolate the equipment electrically.
4.2 Fix the dummy flange to the inlet of the jacket.
4.3 Fill the reactor jacket with water from the outlet nipple.
4.4 After filling the jacket connect the outlet nipple of reactor to the outlet of the hydraulic pump.
4.5 Open the vent plug of the jacket and slowly apply pressure through the pump. In this process entrapped air in the jacket will be removed. Once the water comes out from the vent plug close the vent plug.
4.6 Apply hydraulic pressure till the test pressure is reached. (1.5 times the working pressure).
4.7 Close the hydraulic pump outlet valve.
4.8 After two hours check the pressure. If there is any pressure drop, remove the insulation of the reactor and check for the leakage visually. If any leakage is found, rectify it as per SOP WELDING THE DAMAGED JACKET OF REACTOR.
4.9. Restore the power supply to the equipment.
5.0 RECORDING :
The responsibility of recording the hydraulic test in the history card lies with the staff of rank not lower than the maintenance engineer.
