Operation Of Muffle Furnace

1.0    PURPOSE:

1.1    To lay down the procedure for operation of muffle furnace.

2.0    SCOPE:

2.1    This SOP is applicable for Quality control department.

3.0    RESPONSIBILITY:

3.1     Assistant – Quality Control

4.0    ACCOUNTABILITY:

4.1     Executive – Quality Control

5.0    PROCEDURE:

5.1    Connect the unit to 230 Volts A/c power supply.
5.2    Switch on the equipment.
5.3    The Digital Temperature controller will be displayed indicating the ambient temperature.

Note: Ensure that no chemicals or solvents shall be near to the equipment.

5.4    Press Push button of digital controller and set the required temperature by rotating  the set knob.
5.5    Set the required temperature with set knob and release the push button
5.6    Actual temperature will be displayed on the controller monitor.
5.7    Set the rate of temperature by using the Tune knob.
5.8    Temperature will increases up to set temperature and heater bulb will be on.  

Note: Once the required temperature reached, the heater shall cut off automatically and heater bulb is off.

5.9    Change in to the on/off cycle will continue to maintain the constant temperature.
5.10    Now the equipment is ready for the ignition of sample. 
5.11    After completion of the analysis enter the data in to a muffle furnace logbook.

Note: While placing the samples in the furnace use large tongues and asbestos hand gloves.
