1.0       Purpose

           To lay down the Procedure for Entry and Exit of Microbiology Testing area.

2.0       Scope  :

This procedure applies to entry and exit of Microbiology testing area for Microbiologist/Analyst, Lab boy and Maintenance personnel to carry out Microbiological tests, for cleaning of testing and change room and Maintenance works respectively.

3.0       Responsibility:

3.1       Microbiologist/Analyst has the responsibility to ensure that the procedure is being followed during entry and exit / any other personnel.

4.0       Definitions/Abbreviations: Nil.

5.0       Procedure      :

5.1       Entry Procedure for Microbiology Personnel:

5.1.1    Entry into microbiology testing area is restricted. The person who performs the microbiology tests shall follow the strict hygienic conditions.

5.1.2    Enter buffer room and ensure that door is closed. Before entering into change room sanitizehands with “Hands Disinfectant gel”.

5.1.3    Enter the change room by opening the door with the help of elbows.

5.1.4    Switch ‘OFF’ the UV lamp provided at the left hand side of the garment box. 

5.1.5    Open the garment box door, take the sterilized garment pack and check the chemical    indicator strip for decolourisation.

5.1.6The garment pack contains suit, head gear, and set of booties.

5.1.7Put on sterile headgear, cover the hair, and tied with tags provided at the sides of the head gear.

5.1.8Wear the sterile garments over the primary garments by taking out the suit by wrist and arms   and step into the legs of the suit and lock it with buttons and ensure that hand opening of the suit are tuck into gloves.

5.1.9Take the booties and wear them. Leg opening of the suit are tucked into the booties and tied    with tags provided at the sides of the booties.

5.1.10Take out a pair of sterile gloves and put on them to the hands.

5.1.11Hands are sanitized by “Hand disinfectant gel” and enter in microbiology testing area (LAF Room) by opening the door with the elbow.

5.1.12Ensure change room and testing room should not open at a time.

5.2       Exit Procedure for Microbiology Personnel:

5.2.1    After completion of Microbiology tests keep all the materials in the pass box and close the pass box door.

5.2.2    Clean the LAF bench with 70% IPA disinfectant solution and switch on the UV lamp of the LAF bench.

5.2.3    Then enter into the change room, put off the garments in the garment box and hang on hanger and send for cleaning and sterilization.

5.2.4    While coming out ensure that doors are closed properly.

5.3       Entry and Exit Procedure for Maintenance Personnel:

5.3.1Depending up on the type of work (major or minor) to be carry out by maintenance personnel    in microbiology testing area entry and exit producer shall be followed as such below    mentioned.

5.3.2If minor work is to be carrying out in microbiology testing area follows the producer of    Microbiology personnel entry and exit.

5.3.3If major work is to be carrying out follow the instructions which are given here are disinfect the hands with disinfectant solution / gel by rubbing the gel / solution for 30 sec to 1 minute.

5.3.4Wear the disposable head cap, nose mask, shoe covers and hand gloves. Enter into the change room through buffer room and wear the apron provided on the primary cloths.

5.3.5Then the maintenance personnel carry out the work.

5.3.6After the work is finished disinfect the microbiology testing area, change room and buffer room as per the    ‘Procedure for cleaning of microbiology laboratory’ and ‘Procedure for fumigation’.    Fumigation shall be done for 30 minutes and leave the rooms for 30 minutes for disinfection.   And run AHU’s for about 30 minutes to remove the vapours. So immediately to carry out microbiology testings in case of major work is done.

5.3.7Testing shall be carry out in microbiology testing area after completion of the disinfection.

5.4       Entry and Exit Procedure for Lab Assistant:

5.4.1    Entry of lab assistant is allowed under supervision of microbiologist.

5.4.2    Lab assistant shall wear disposable head cap, nose mask, apron, shoe covers and hand gloves and enter through change room.

5.4.3    After completion of work, the personal shall be removed head cap, nose mask, apron, shoe covers and hand gloves.
