1.0    PURPOSE

1.1    To lay down the procedure for operation and calibration of heating block, 

2.0    SCOPE:

2.1    This SOP covers the operation and calibration procedure of Heating block in Microbiology Laboratory.

3.0    RESPONSIBILITY:    

3.1     Microbiologist

4.0    ACCOUNTABILITY:    

4.1    Head - Quality Control

5.0    OPERATING PROCEDURE:            

5.1    Switch on the power supply to the instrument.
5.2    Switch ON the Orange indicator power switch of the instrument.
5.3    Press the Red indicator button switch and set to desired temperature. The heater lamp glows in “ON”-“OFF” mode till the instrument attains the set temperature.
5.4    The heater lamp gets automatically cut off when the set temperature is attained.
5.5    Enter the details in Equipment Usage logbook.

6.0    CALIBRATION PROCEDURE:

6.1    Operate the instrument as per point no. 5.0.
6.2    Place the calibrated thermometer in a half water filled test tube. Place the test tube in each well as shown in figure – I.
6.3    Set the heating block temperature to 25°C.
6.4    When the display temperature reaches to 25°C, note down the temperature of thermometer in the Format No.XXXXX
6.5    Carryout the temperature monitoring by changing the thermometer to well – 1, well –2, well-3, well-4 and well-5.
6.6    Note the temperature of the thermometer at each well in Format No.XXXXX
6.7    Like wise carryout the temperature monitoring for 40°C and 60°C as above.
6.8    Frequency of calibration: once in three months.
6.9    Acceptance criteria: ± 1°C
