1.0    OBJECTIVE

1.1    To lay down a procedure for Operation of pass boxes. Equipment identification No QPBM xxxxxx
2.0    SCOPE

2.1    This SOP covers the procedure for operation of Pass boxes and is applicable in microbiology lab.

5.0    PROCEDURE

5.1    Switch “ON” the power.
5.2    Put ON the toggle switch located in the control box 
5.3    RED and GREEN Indicator lamps glow in the control box.
5.4    The control box supplies electricity to the magnetic conductor, which holds the one door. The other door will be open.
5.5    If we close the opened door on one side the other side gets repelled.
5.6    Three Indicator switches are present:
5.6.1    RED         -       Indicates ultra violet lamp.
5.6.2    GREEN     -      Indicates buzzer.
5.6.3    YELLOW  -      Indicates normal tube light.
5.7    The pass box is intended for transfer of all materials from sterile area to non-sterile area and vice versa.
5.8    The function of buzzer indicates the loaded materials are in the hatch box.
5.9    Load the materials in the pass box and press Buzzer, and close the door properly so that the other side of the door opens for unloading.
5.10     Unload the materials and close the door, so that if there are any materials still to be loaded for.
5.11    Continue the above operation till all the materials had been sent to sterile area for analysis and close the door.
5.12    After completion of analysis transfer all the materials to the designated places through the pass boxes. 
5.13    Operation of hatch box should be followed carefully. Precautions like opening of both the doors at the same time should be avoided.Every day after completion of work the hatch box should be cleaned with 70%isopropyl alcohol.
5.14    Maintain a record for UV lamp hours consumed every day to monitor the lamp life as per annexure -I.
