Description

1.0 PURPOSE:

To describe a  standard operating procedure for replacement  of  shaft oil seal/coupling tyre of refrigeration unit.

2.0    SCOPE:

The standard operating procedure describes in detail the method  for  replacement of shaft oil seal/coupling tyre of  refrigeration unit.

3.0    RESPONSIBILITY:

The  responsibility of replacement of shaft  oil  seal/coupling   tyre  of  refrigeration unit lies with the staff  of  rank  not   lower than the junior utility operator.

The  responsibility of preparing, reviewing  and approving  the  standard  operating  procedure lies with the  Manager  -  Maintenance,  Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.

4.0    METHOD:

4.1        Start  the compressor  and pump down the compressor as per  SOP  CHANGING/ADDITION OF OIL OF  REFRIGERATION UNIT.follow steps 4.1 to 4.7.

4.2        Isolate the equipment electrically and keep "UNDER MAINTENANCE"  board to the main feeder.

4.3        Loosen the motor and compressor coupling flange bolts until the  coupling tyre comes out.

4.4        Remove  the coupling tyre and loosen the coupling flange  shaft  lock  nut.

4.5        Remove the compressor coupling flanges by slightly hammering.

4.6        Remove the key from the key slot.

4.7        Remove shaft seal cover plate.

4.8        Remove seal bellows assembly and seal springs.

4.9        Replace it with new seal assembly unit.

4.10       Fix shaft seal cover plate and place the key in the key slot.

4.11       Fix  the coupling flanges to the compressor shaft.

4.12       Fix  the  new coupling  tyre (if the old tyre is  damaged)  and   tighten the flange bolts.

4.13       Tighten the shaft lock nut.

4.14       Remove "under maintenance" board.

4.15       Restore the power supply to the equipment.

4.16       Open all the liquid line valves, suction valve, discharge valve  of the compressor.

4.17       Start  the  compressor and observe for any leaks    from  shaft  seal.  If it leaks again repeat the steps from 4.1 to 4.16.

4.18       If  only coupling tyre of compressor has to be changed.  follow  step 4.1 to 4.5 and 4.13 to 4.17.

5.0        RECORDING

The  responsibility of recording the breakdown  in the  history  card   lies with the staff of rank not lower than  the  maintenance supervisor.
