1.0 PURPOSE:
To describe a standard operating procedure for replacement of gaskets of reactors main flange, pressure filters and leaf filters.
2.0 SCOPE:
The standard operating procedure describes in detail the method of replacing gaskets of reactors main flange, pressure filters and leaf filters in the plant.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
The responsibility of replacing gaskets of reactors main flange, pressure filters and leaf filters lies with the staff of rank not lower than junior utility operator of maintenance department.
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the standard operating procedure lies with the Manager - Maintenance, Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
4.0 METHOD:
4.1 Ensure that the equipment is not in operating condition and also not under pressure / vacuum.
4.2 Open all the bolts and nuts of the flange.
4.3 Remove the old gasket and clean both the surfaces using sharp Edged blade.
4.4 Select the gasket tape/sheet of suitable width and thickness. Cut the gasket to the suitable size.
4.5 Join both the edges of the gasket and wrap with Teflon tape.
4.6 Fix the gasket on the lower flange using adhesive. In case of pressure filters fix the gaskets one each for top and bottom flanges.
4.7 Place the top flange on the bottom flange and ensure that the gasket on the lower flange is not disturbed. In case of pressure filters insert perforated plate and filter cloth between top and lower flanges without disturbing the gaskets.
4.8 Fix all the bolts and nuts.
4.9 First tighten opposite bolts and nuts evenly.
4.10 Tighten fully all the bolts and nuts.
