1.0 PURPOSE:
To describe a standard operating procedure for replacement of oil seals of gear boxes.
2.0 SCOPE:
The standard operating procedure describes in detail the method of replacing oil seals of gear boxes belongs to Process/Utilities/Laboratory equipments.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
The responsibility of replacing the oil seals of gear boxes lies with the staff of rank not lower than junior utility operator of maintenance department.
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the standard operating procedure lies with the Manager - Maintenance, Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
4.0 METHOD:
4.1 Isolate the equipment electrically.
4.2 Remove gear box from the equipment.
4.3 Drain the Lubricating oil from gear box into the waste oil collection tray/container and dispose the same into waste oil barrel.
4.4 Remove the coupling/pulley from the gear box as per the XXXXXXXX( INTERNAL SOP)
4.5 Remove the oil seal covers.
4.6 Remove the damaged oil seal from the oil seal cover using metallic hook.
4.7 Replace the damaged oil seals with new oil seals in the respective places.
4.8 Fix the oil seal covers.
4.9 Open the gear box top cover and check the condition of worm gear and worm shaft. If the gear shaft worm out, gear box shall be sent to the out side agency for replacement of the worm out parts.
4.10 If the Gear/Worm condition satisfactory, fill the Lubricating oil in the gear box Enklo-320 of IOC/BP/- make or equivalent grade to the just above the half level in the level indicator
4.11 Check for oil seal leakages by rotating the shaft manually and check for leakage through the oil seal.
4.12 If the oil leaking from the seals repeat the steps 4.5 to 4.7.
4.13 If the oil is not leaking, fix the coupling/pulley in its place.
4.14 Fix the gear box to the equipment.
4.15 Restore the power supply to the equipment.
4.16 Record the replacement data in the equipment history card.
5.0 RECORDING:
The responsibility of recording the replacement of oil seals in the equipment history card lies with the staff of rank not lower than the Maintenance supervisor.
