1.0       Purpose          :        

To lay down the Procedure for Operation and Maintenance of Hot Plate.          

2.0       Scope              :     

This procedure is applicable to be followed during operation and maintenance of Hot plate.

3.0       Responsibility:       

3.1       The responsibility of operating the hot plate as per procedure lies with Microbiologist /Analyst.

4.0       Definitions/Abbreviations:  Nil

5.0       Procedure      :

5.1       Switch on the power supply to the hot plate.

5.2       Hot plate having Heater Indicating lamp, 3 heat switch control knob on left hand side and Thermostat knob on right hand side.

5.3       Set required temperature from 0 to 120 º C with Thermostat knob simultaneously set the 3 heat switch control knob to 1st level.

5.4       Set required temperature from 120 to 220 º C with Thermostat knob simultaneously set the 3 heat switch control knob to 2nd level.

5.5       Set required temperature from 220 to 320 º C with Thermostat knob simultaneously set the 3 heat switch control knob to 3rd level.

5.6       Place the containers with samples to be heated on the hot plate.

5.7       Leave the unit to attain the set temperature. As the temperature of the unit reaches the  required set temperature, the Heater Indicating lamp with thermostat will go ‘OFF’ automatically and will be switched ‘ON’ when the temperature drops below the set temperature.

5.8       After completion of the operation set both knobs to ‘0’ position.

5.9       Remove the containers from the hot plate and leave the hot plate for some time to cool.

5.10     Maintenance:

5.10.1  Clean the hot plate with cloth and remove any spills.

5.10.2  No water should fall on the control box.
