1.0 PURPOSE:
To describe a standard operating procedure (SOP) for distilled water plant.
2.0 SCOPE:
The SOP describes in detail the method of distilled water plant.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
The responsibility of maintaining of distilled water plant as per the SOP lies with the staff of rank not lower than operator of production department.
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the SOP lies with the Executive (Production), Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
4.0 METHOD:
4.1.1 Open DM water valves No.1 and 2, switch "ON" the UV lamp.
4.1.2 Slowly open the DM water inlet valve No.3 of distilled water plant.
4.1.3 Slowly open the steam valve of the distilled water plant and excess steam outlet lock valve.
4.1.4 When the distillation starts adjust the steam valve and water inlet valve No.3 such that overflow will not occur at water makeup valve.
4.1.5 Reject 1st 2 L. of distilled water and collect the water in the glass flask.
4.1.6 After completion of distillation close the DM water valve No.1 to 3 and steam valve and switch "OFF" the UV lamp and allow to cool the distill water 20 – 25° C.
4.1.7 Put the feed water pipe of Milli-Q into the distilled water flask.
4.1.8 Switch ON the main power supply to the Mill-Q system by turning on the power switch at the back side of the machine.
4.1.9 Display “STAND BY” on the screen.
4.1.10 Press the “OPERATE / STAND BY” button for two seconds, the system is turn into pre operate mode.
4.1.11 Slightly move forward the trigger.
4.1.12 Observe the display of output water conductivity on the screen. It should be always 0.054 µs/cm.
4.1.13 Then move the trigger completely to down.
4.1.14 Collect the water through 0.22 µ filter into S2900A, after rejecting first 2 L..
4.1.15 After completion of water collection, move the trigger completely up.
4.1.16 Press the ‘OPERATE / STAND BY” button instrument turn to stand by mode.
4.1.17 Switch OFF the main power supply to the Mill-Q system by turning off power switch at the back side of the machine.
4.1.18 Distilled water collected sufficient for one Batch of a product and give the Batch No. as xxxxx
Note: Where X,Y are digits, DS stands for distilled water, XX stands for the last two digits of the calendar year and YYY for batch No. X,Y are integers and have values from 0 to 9.
4.2 PRECAUTIONS FOR OPERATION :
4.2.1 Change the catridge when feed water conductivity does not display 0.054 µs / cm.
5.0 RECORDING:
The responsibility of recording the operation of distilled water plant including UV lamp and Milli-Q system lies with the staff of rank not lower than the operator as shown in annexure-I.
