1.1 To lay down the procedure for handling, storage, preservation and destruction of inorganic cyanides.

2.1 This SOP is applicable for Quality control department.

5.0 PROCEDURE:
5.1 Raw material:
5.1.1 Upon receipt of MRR of cuprous cyanide, assistant – QC (designated and trained) shall check the details on the MRR and the supplier COA.
5.1.2 Assistant – QC shall check the consignment against the MRR and collect the sample supplied by vendor.
5.1.3 Assistant QC shall enter the appropriate details in the inward register.
5.1.4 Sample and standard shall be kept in the designated cupboard under lock and key.
5.1.5 Key shall be with the Manager – QA.
5.1.6 Analyst – QC (designated and trained) shall go through material safety data sheet thoroughly before performing analysis.
5.1.7 Analyst shall wear the hand gloves, goggles and nose mask etc.
5.1.8 Sample shall be analyzed by Analyst in the supervision of Manager-QC or designee during daytime only.
5.1.9 Prepare 20 liters potassium permanganate solution (10% solution) and dispense in two buckets.
5.1.10 Decompose the analysis left over sample in one of the potassium permanganate solution bucket.
5.1.11 All the glassware and consumables used for the analysis shall be carefully soaked in potassium permanganate solution for 30 minutes, in another bucket.
5.1.12 Send both the buckets to Effluent treatment plant and dispose the contents under the supervision of QC in-charge and safety supervisor.
5.1.13 Control sample shall not be required.
5.2 In-process samples:
5.2.1 Upon receipt of in-process sample from production, Assistant- QC shall check the details on the container against the technical information receipt.
5.2.2 Sample and standard shall be kept in the designated cupboard under lock and key.
5.2.3 Key shall be with the Manager – QA.
5.2.4 Analyst shall wear the hand gloves, goggles and nose mask etc.
5.2.5 Sample shall be analyzed by analyst in the supervision of Manager-QC or designee during daytime only.
5.2.6 Prepare 20 liters potassium permanganate solution (10% solution) and dispense in two buckets.
5.2.7 Decompose the analysis left over sample in one of the potassium permanganate solution bucket.
5.2.8 All the glassware and consumables used for the analysis shall be carefully soaked in potassium permanganate solution for 30 minutes, in another bucket.
5.2.9 Send both the buckets to Effluent treatment plant and dispose the contents under the supervision of QC in-charge and safety supervisor.
5.2.10 Destruction shall be recorded as per annexure – I.
