1.0 PURPOSE:
To describe a standard operating procedure (SOP) for performing refluxion.
2.0 SCOPE:
The SOP describes in detail the method of refluxion.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
The responsibility of carrying out refluxion as per the SOP lies with the staff of the rank not lower than operator of the production department.
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the SOP lies with the Officer (Production), Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
4.0 METHOD:
4.1 Empty the jacket of the reactor. Give chilled water supply to the condenser. Open vent valve of distillation line.
4. 2 Close jacket drain valve, open steam trap and open steam inlet valve. Apply steam heating slowly to the jacket.
4. 3 Slowly heat the mass till reflux starts and which can be observed from the viewglass.
4.4 Open the return valve from the condenser to the reactor once the refluxion has started.
4.5 Adjust the position of steam valve by proper manipulation so that reflux will be continued.
5.0 RECORDING:
The reflux operation will be recorded by the operator/supervisor in the batch manufacturing sheet.
