1.0    PURPOSE

1.1    To lay down the procedure for fumigation of controlled area.

2.0    SCOPE

2.1    This SOP covers the procedure for fumigation of controlled area and is applicable in Microbiology lab.

5.0    PROCEDURE        
    
5.1    Remove all the used glassware and media plates from sterile area.
5.2    Clean the controlled area as per current version of SOP No: XXXXX, switch off the air handling unit.
5.3    The dimensions of LAF Room is 292 cm L X 155 cm W, Buffer Room 291 cm L X 141cm W, Change Room –II  103 cm L X 116, Change Room – I 106 cm L X 172 cm W.
5.4    Place 5.0gms of potassium permanganate in a non-reactive wide mouth plastic container and add 35 ml of formaldehyde solution.
5.5    Place the container in each room and put the potassium permanganate. 
5.6    Then pour the formaldehyde solution in the container and close the door.
5.7     Run the air-handling unit for about 30 minutes and then switch it OFF.
5.8    Exhaust the fumigation in the next day by switching ON the air-handling unit.
5.9    Note down the fumigation details in controlled area fumigation record as per annexure – 1.
5.10    Controlled area includes change room – 1, change room – 2, buffer room and Laminar airflow room.
