1.0 PURPOSE:
To describe a standard operating procedure for replacement of spares of mechanical seal unit of pumps.
2.0 SCOPE:
The standard operating procedure describes in detail the method of replacing spares of mechanical seal unit of pumps in the plant.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
The responsibility of replacing the spares of mechanical seal unit of pumps lies with the staff of rank not lower than supervisor of maintenance department.
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the standard operating procedure lies with the Manager - Maintenance, Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
4.0 METHOD:
4.1 Isolate the equipment electrically.
4.2 Remove the guard.
4.3 Close the suction and delivery valves.
4.4 Open the suction cover, Remove impeller and volute casing of the pump.
4.5 Unlock the mechanical seal unit from the sleeve and take out the seal unit.
4.6 Dismantle the seal unit.
4.7 Check springs, 'O' rings and both (Rotary and Stationary parts) the mating surfaces of the seal unit. Replace the 'O' rings and springs if they are found deformed.
4.8 Replace the mating surfaces if they are found damaged.
4.9 Fix volute casing and impeller with key and tighten the lock-nut.
4.10 Lock the seal unit to the sleeve with grub screws for allowable tension.
4.11 Fix the suction cover with gasket and ensure that the shaft rotates freely.
4.12 Fix the suction and delivery pipes, open the suction valve, check whether the seal is leaking or not.
4.13 If the seal does not leak, open delivery valve, restore the power supply to the equipment and switch on the pump.
4.14 If the seal leaks repeat steps 4.1 to 4.12 till the seal does not leak.
5.0 RECORDING:
