1.0Purpose                      :

To lay down the procedure for Operation, Calibration and Maintenance of Non - contact Infrared Thermometer.

2.0      Scope                           :

This procedure applies to Non-contact Infrared Thermometer in Microbiology lab with the following details:

 3.0       Responsibility:

            The responsibility of operation, calibration and maintenance of Non-contact Infrared  Thermometer lies with microbiologist/Analyst.

4.0       Definitions/Abbreviations:  Nil

5.0Procedure :

5.1       Measuring :

5.1.1    Switch on the instrument by pressing the ENT button (red switch present at handle).

5.1.2    The display will show the temperature and the laser will turn on.

5.1.3    Move the laser pointer to the centre of the measuring area.

5.1.4   Hold the laser pointer to the centre of the measuring area till the display screen shows stable reading.

5.1.5    Target object shall be within 2 meter distance.

5.2       Setting :

5.2.1For high alarm setting press FUN button (function button, blue colour button present below   the display screen) until ‘Hi’ symbol starts fluctuating on the display screen. Press ENT key and then  press  FUN key to adjust the temperature

5.2.2For low alarm setting press FUN button (function button, blue colour button present below the display screen) until ‘Lo’ symbol starts fluctuating on the display screen. Press ENT key and then press FUN key to adjust the temperature.

5.3       Calibration :

5.3.1    Set water bath at 40 °C. Immerse the standard thermometer in water bath once the  temperature of water reaches 40 °C.

5.3.2    Move the laser pointer to the centre of the water bath.

5.3.3    Hold for response time and then record the reading of standard thermometer and Non-contact Infrared Thermometer.

5.3.4    Repeat the above step for 45 °C and 50 °C also.

5.3.5    Record the readings in Non-contact Infrared Thermometer Calibration Report format xxxxx.

5.4      Acceptance criteria :  ± 2 °C to the standard thermometer reading.

5.5       Frequency : Once in a 6 months ± 7days.

5.6       Precautions :

5.6.1    Do not stare into beam or view directly with optical instrument.

5.6.2    Protect the instrument from EMF and static electricity.

5.6.3    Protect the instrument from thermal shock.

5.6.4    Do not wipe the instrument with IPA or any other solvents.
