Description

1.0    PURPOSE:
    
    To describe a standard operating procedure for replacement of bearings of process / utilities / laboratory equipment.
    
2.0    SCOPE:
    
    The standard operating procedure describes in detail the method of replacing the bearings of process / utilities / laboratory equipment.
    
3.0    RESPONSIBILITY:
    
    The  responsibility  of  replacing the  bearings  of  process / utilities / laboratory equipment lies with the  staff of rank  not lower than junior utility operator of maintenance department.
    
    The  responsibility of preparing, reviewing  and approving  the standard  operating  procedure lies with the  Manager  -  Maintenance,  Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
    
4.0    METHOD:
    
4.1    Isolate the equipment electrically.
    
4.2    Dismantle the unit for which bearing to be replaced from its equipment and follow the as per Operating procedure sop, wherever V-belts drive applicable to remove V-belts.
    
4.3    Remove the bearing covers.
    
4.4    Remove the damaged bearings using bearing puller.
    
4.5    Clean the bearing seating  using cloth and ensure that the seating is cleaned.
    
4.6    Insert the new bearings in the bearing seating.
    
4.7    Apply bearing grease for fabrication.
    
4.8    Replace the oil seals (If bearing cover sealed with oil seal) of the bearing cover as per INTERNAL SOP
    
4.9    Fix the bearing covers.
    
4.10    Fix the unit to its equipment.
    
4.11    Restore the power supply.
    
4.12    Record the replacement data in the history card of the equipment.
    
5.0    RECORDING:
    
    The responsibility of recording the replacement of bearings in equipment history card as per the SOP lies with the staff of rank not lower than maintenance supervisor.
