Guaifenesin is an expectorant which increases the output of phlegm (sputum) and bronchial secretions by reducing the surface tension and.adhesiveness By reducing the adhesiveness of secretions and viscosity, this drug increases the efficacy of the mucociliary mechanism in removing accumulated secretions from the upper and lower airway.
PO- The recommended dose is 200 to 400 mg 4 hourly. Max: 2.4 g/day.
Used to assist the expectoration of phlegm from the airways in acute respiratory tract infections.
