Description

1.0 PURPOSE:

To  describe  a  standard operating procedure  for  breakdown    rectification of centrifugal pumps.

2.0    SCOPE:

The standard operating procedure describes in detail the possible  breakdowns and the method of their rectification  of  centrifugal pumps.

3.0    RESPONSIBILITY:

The  responsibility of breakdown  rectification of  centrifugal  pumps lies with the staff of rank not lower than junior utility  operator of maintenance department.
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing  and approving  the  standard  operating procedure lies with the Manager  -  Maintenance,  Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.

4.0    METHOD:

4.1    Possible problems:

4.1.1    Gland leak/seal leak.

4.1.2    Bearings damage.

4.1.3    Coupling damage/breakage.

4.1.4    Chocking of impeller/loosening of impeller.

4.2        Gland leak/seal leak rectification:

4.2.1     Carryout gland leak rectification  as per SOP replacement  of gland packing of pumps and reactors.Carryout the seal leak rectification as per SOP replacement  of spares of mechanical seal unit of pumps.
4.3    Coupling damage/breakage:

4.3.1     Carry out rectification as per SOP replacement  of damaged couplings/pulleys of reactors, pumps, motors  and  gear boxes.
4.4     Chocking of impeller/loosened of impeller:

4.4.1    Carryout the rectification of chocking of impeller/loosened  of   impeller as per SOP DECHOCKING  OF  IMPELLER  & REPLACING CORRODED IMPELLER / REFIXING OF LOOSENED IMPELLER OF PUMPS.
4.5    Replacement of damaged shaft.

4.5.1    Isolate the equipment electrically.

4.5.2    Remove the guard.

4.5.3    Close the suction and delivery valves.

4.5.4    Open  the suction cover, remove impeller and volute  casing  of  the pump.

4.5.5    Remove mechanical seal if the pump is provided with  mechanical  seal.

4.5.6    Take out the shaft and replace it with new one.

4.5.7      Assemble the pump in the reverse order of dismantling.

4.5.8    Restore the power supply to the equipment.

5.0    RECORDING

The  responsibility of recording  the breakdown   rectification   in  the history card as per SOP lies with the staff  of  rank   not lower than maintenance Engineer.
