CLEANING SANITIZATION OF R.C.C WATER STORAGE TANKS

Description

1.0    PURPOSE:
    
    To describe a standard operating procedure for the cleaning/sanitization of R.C.C water storage tanks.
    
2.0    SCOPE:
    
     The Standard operating procedure describes in detail the method for cleaning/sanitization of R.C.C water storage tanks in the plant i.e. R.C.C Raw water storage tank at DM water plant area, 
    
3.0    RESPONSIBILITY:
    
    The responsibility of sanitization of the cleaning/sanitization of R.C.C water storage tanks as per the standard operating procedure lies with the staff of rank not lower than the chargeman.
        
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the standard operating procedure lies with the Executive – Maintenance, Manager – Maintenance, Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
    
4.0    METHOD:
    
4.1    Cleaning/sanitization of R.C.C. Raw water storage tank at D.M. water plant area, Administrative building, and Block-III :
    
4.1.1    Cleaning and sanitization of R.C.C. Raw water storage tanks shall be carried out with bleaching powder.
    
4.1.2    Drain the water from the water storage tanks to the dead level.
    
4.1.3    Spray the bleaching powder in the dead volume water.
    
4.1.4    Scrap the surfaces of the tank with wire brushes and scrappers to remove Alge/Fungus (If any). 
    
4.1.5    Clean the surfaces of the tanks by splashing and spraying the bleaching powder mixed water.
    
4.1.6    Drain/remove the water completely from the tanks.
    
4.1.7    Repeat the step no. 4.4.5  with fresh water and Drain/remove the water completely from the tanks.
    
4.1.8    Fill the tank with fresh water.
    
4.1.9    Total time required for the cleaning/sanitization of R.C.C. storage tank at D.M. water plant is about 8 hrs and R.C.C. water storage tanks at Administrative Block / Block-III is about 4 hrs.
    
4.1.10    Record the cleaning/sanitization  data  in  the  register   as per Annexure-I
    
4.1.11    Frequency :
    
    Raw water storage tanks shall be cleared and sanitized with bleaching powder once in a year ± one month.
    
5.0    RECORDING :
    
    The responsibility of recording the sanitization as per Annexures lies with the staff of rank not lower than the chargeman.
