Description

1.0    PURPOSE:

To describe a standard operating procedure (SOP) for charging raw material into an equipment.

2.0    SCOPE:

The SOP describes in detail the method of charging raw material (solids and liquids).

3.0    RESPONSIBILITY:

The responsibility  of charging raw material as per the SOP lies with the staff of the rank not lower than operator of the production department.

The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the SOP lies with the Officer (Production), Head of Production and Head of QAD  respectively.

4.0    METHOD:

4.1    SOLID RAW MATERIALS:

4. 1.1    Open manhole cover of reactor.

4. 1.2    Arrange a clean funnel/hopper in the man hole of reactor.

4.1.3    Lift  the material and dump completely in the  reactor  through funnel/hopper.

4.1.4    Remove  the funnel/hopper and close manhole after  charging  is  completed.

4.2    LIQUID RAW MATERIALS BY VACUUM:

4.2.1    Arrange a dry hose pipe to the charging valve of reactor.

4.2.2    Keep the other end of hose into drum of the liquid raw material  to be charged.

4.2.3    Open the vacuum line and charging valve of the reactor.

4.2.4    Close the vacuum valve, charging valve and open the vent  valve of the reactor after completion of charging.

4.3    LIQUID RAW MATERIALS  BY GRAVITY:

4.3.1    Charge the required quantity of raw material to addition vessel by pumping or using vacuum.

4.3.2    Open the bottom valve of the addition vessel and inlet valve of the reactor and discharge the liquid  into reactor completely.

4.2.5    Close the inlet and outlet valves, when the temperature reaches  the  upper  limit in the  range, so  that  temperature  reaches lower limit.

4.2.6    Check the temperature  at regular intervals with  thermometer.

4.2.7    If  the temperature reaches the upper limit in the range,  open the inlet and outlet valves of chilled water, till the temperature  reaches  2° C. less than  upper  limit   close  the chilled water valves.

4.3    MAINTENANCE BELOW 15 DEGREE C.

4.3.1    Remove chilled water from jacket drain valve.

4.3.2    Close the jacket drain valve.

5.0    RECORDING:

Charging of raw material will be recorded by operator/supervisor in the batch manufacturing sheet.
