1.0 PURPOSE:
To describe a standard operating procedure for the operation of refrigeration unit.
2.0 SCOPE:
The standard operating procedure describes in detail the method of the operation of refrigeration unit.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
The responsibility of operating the refrigeration unit lies with the staff of rank not lower than the junior utility operator.
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the standard operating procedure lies with the Manager-Maintenance, Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
4.0 METHOD:
4.1 Starting Procedure :
4.1.1 Ensure condenser inlet and outlet water valves of the compressor are opened.
4.1.2 Ensure brine level and specific gravity are at 4 feet min. and 1.14 respectively.
4.1.3 Switch "ON" the brine/chilled water primary pump.
4.1.4 Switch "ON" the ON/OFF toggle switch provided in the compressor control panel
4.1.5 Switch "ON" the push button at the feeder.
4.1.6 Observe the speed of the motor, when the motor attains full speed, observe the oil level through the oil level view glass. The level should be Maintained between ½ and ¾th of the level glass.
4.1.7 Parameters to be maintained while the Compressor is in operation :
4.1.7.1 Suction pressure should be minimum 5 PSI for brine compressor and 25 PSI for chilled water compressor.
4.1.7.2 Discharge pressure should not exceed 290 PSI for brine/chilled water compressor.
4.1.7.3 Oil pressure should be at least 20 PSI more than the suction pressure. And it should not be beyond 50 PSI than suction pressure.
4.1.7.4 Compressor oil pressure should be in the range of 20 PSI to 50 PSI more than the suction pressure.
4.1.8 Record the readings in the format no: xxxxx as shown in Annexure-I
4.1.9 Record the readings for every 2 hours of operation.
4.2 Stopping procedure :
4.2.2 Switch "OFF" the feeder push button provided at the compressor panel..
4.2.3 Switch "OFF" brine/chilled water primary pump.
4.3 In emergency, stop the compressor by changing the position of ON/OFF toggle switch to OFF position provided at the compressor control panel.
4.4 If the oil level is Low add oil as per the SOP CHANGING/ADDITION OF OIL OF REFRIGERATION UNIT.
4.5 If the parameters given in 4.1.7.1 to 4.1.7.4 are not within the limits stop the compressor and follow SOP BREAKDOWN RECTIFICATION OF REFRIGERATION UNIT.
5.0 RECORDING:
The responsibility of recording the parameters in the format lies with the staff of rank not lower than the junior utility operator.
