Description

1.0 PURPOSE:
    
    To describe a  standard operating procedure for replacement  of damaged couplings/pulleys of reactors, pumps, motors  and  gear boxes.
    
2.0    SCOPE:
    
    The standard operating procedure describes in detail the method  of  replacing  damaged couplings/pulleys  of  reactors,  pumps, motors  and gear boxes in the plant.
    
3.0    RESPONSIBILITY:
    
    The responsibility of replacing the couplings/pulleys of  reactors, pumps, motors  and gear boxes lies with the staff of rank  not lower than junior utility operator of maintenance department.
    
    The  responsibility of preparing, reviewing  and approving  the standard  operating  procedure lies with the  Manager  -  Maintenance,  Head of Production and Head of QAD respectively.
    
4.0    METHOD:
    
4.1    Isolate the equipment electrically.
    
4.2    Remove the coupling / pulleys guard. 
    
4.3    Decouple  motor and drive unit. 
    
4.4    Remove the locking bolt of coupling / pulley.
    
4.5    Remove the coupling / pulley using puller.
    
4.6    Fix the new coupling / pulley with key.
    
4.7    Lock the coupling / pulley with lock nut or bolt. 
    
4.8    Incase of pumps assemble  the motor and pump, keeping the star  washer  between the couplings of motor and pump.  Incase of reactor insert the bush bolts to the coupling and tighten the bolts.
    
4.9    Align the coupling / pulleys.
    
4.10    Fix the coupling / pulleys guard.
    
4.11    Restore the power supply to the equipment.
