Pharmacokinetics

  • Absorption is linear. The bioavailability of nadroparin after subcutaneous administration is about 89%.
  • Nadroparin is metabolized in the liver.

Actions

This is composed of a heterogeneous mixture of sulfated polysaccaride glycosaminoglycan chains. When bound to ATIII (antithrombin III), accelerates the inactivation of factor II and factor Xa.

Therapeutic uses

Treatment of deep vein thrombosis, unstable angina and non-Q wave myocardial infarction and prevention of clotting during hemodialysis.

Adverse effects/Side effects

Osteopaenic effects; bleeding, haematoma and pain at injection site; thrombocytopenia; Hypoaldosteronism; rash; allergic reactions; increased ALT/AST.

Interaction

  • Increased risk of bleeding with thrombolytic agents, oral anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs.
  • With dong quai, cat's claw, evening primrose, garlic and ginseng may occur additive anticoagulant or antiplatelet effects.

Contraindications

Severe uncontrolled hypertension; Haemorrhage or haemostasis disorder; active peptic ulceration; Acute infective endocarditis; haemorrhagic cerebrovascular event; diabetic or haemorrhagic retinopathy; injuries to or operations on the CNS, eyes or ears; history of thrombocytopenia with nadroparin. Lactation. Not for IM admin.
