Actions

It is a tetraene polyene antibiotic derived from Streptomyces natalensis. It possesses activity against a variety of filamentous fungi and yeast including CandidaCephalosporium, Aspergillus,  Fusarium and Penicillium in vitro.

Dosage/Dosage form

Instill 1 drop 1-2 hourly (As 5% solution) Ophthalmic

Therapeutic uses

For the treatment of fungal blepharitis, conjunctivitis, and keratitis caused by susceptible organisms including Fusarium solani keratitis.

Adverse effects/Side effects

GI disturbances (oral). Irritation (local). Conjunctival chemosis and hyperaemia (ophthalmic).

Interaction

  • When used in combination with Amlodipine the therapeutic efficacy of Natamycin can be increased.
  • The therapeutic efficacy of Natamycin can be increased when used in combination with Amrinone.
  • The therapeutic efficacy of Natamycin can be increased when used in combination with Barnidipine.
