Actions

This drug reduces the intensity of allergic reactions and tissue injury response involving histamine release.

Dosage/Dosage form

1 mg bid increased to 2 mg bid if needed.

Therapeutic uses

Used to treat sneezing; watery eyes; runny nose; itching, hives; rashes; itching; and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold.

Adverse effects/Side effects

Drowsiness, headache, dizziness, fatigue, nervousness; thick bronchial secretions; anticholinergic effects, arthralgia; increased appetite, pharyngitis; wt gain, nausea, diarrhoea, dry mouth; abdominal pain, impaired alertness.

Interaction

  • MAOIs enhance anticholinergic side effect of azatadine.
  • Alcohol may enhance sedative effects
  • CNS depression potentiates by procarbazine, TCAs and alcohol.
  • Enhance depressant action of anxiolytic and sedating drugs.

Contraindications

  • Neonates
  • Lactation.
  • Patients receiving MAOI therapy
