BCG vaccine provides immunity or protection against tuberculosis (TB). The vaccine may be given to persons at high risk of developing TB.
Bacillus Calmette and Guerin-used generally against tuberculosis and are prescribed for bladder cancer treatment.

BCG elicits an acute, local inflammatory reaction with sub-acute granulomatous reactions with macrophages in the urothelium and lymphocyte and lamina propria of the urinary bladder. The anti-tumor activity of BCG is T lymphocyte dependent.
BCG is only for intravesical instillation only. Do not inject BCG as IM/IV/SC. One vial contains 81 mg of lyophilized BCG. The powder should be reconstituted with 3 ml of diluents.
Breastfeeding mothers should avoid nursing while receiving BCG.
Store at 20-25°C.
BCG is contraindicated in patients with tuberculosis, myasthenia gravis, immune deficiency, bladder infections, history of aneurysm, active infections, bladder surgery, pace makers, organ transplantation, hematuria and patient receiving corticosteroid therapy, bladder radiotherapy or surgery within the past two weeks.
