Bacitracin is a mixture of related cyclic polypeptides produced by organisms of the licheniformis group of Bacillus subtilis var Tracy. Bacitracin exerts pronounced antibacterial action in vitro against a few gram-negative and a variety of gram-positive organisms.
Topical/Cutaneous
In Vancomycin-resistant enterococci infections and in Clostridium difficile-associated colitis and diarrhoea (effective orally), in Local infections (topical/cutaneous) and in Staphylococcal infections (intramuscular).
Systemic admin: Nausea, vomiting, hypersensitivity reactions, severe nephrotoxicity, inj site pain.
Increased risk of nephrotoxicity when used with other nephrotoxic drugs.
May enhance the action of neuromuscular-blocking agents.
