Actions

Elevation of Anti-Hepatitis A antibodies which gives protection against Hepatitis A infection. The hepatitis A virus belongs to the picornavirus family. It is one of several hepatitis viruses that cause systemic disease with pathology in the liver. The course of hepatitis A infection is extremely variable, ranging from asymptomatic infection to icteric hepatitis and death. The presence of antibodies to HAV confers protection against hepatitis A infection. 

Dosage/Dosage form

Single dose of 0.5 ml or 1 ml depending on the product and the age of the patient.

Therapeutic uses

Hepatitis A vaccine is indicated for active immunization against disease caused by hepatitis A virus (HAV). 

Adverse effects/Side effects

Transient soreness, erythema, induration at inj site. Fever, malaise.  Anaphylaxis.

Interaction

Reduced response to vaccination when used concurrently with immunosuppressant’s such as corticosteroids or antineoplastics.

Contraindications

  • Vaccines prepared in egg cultures are contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity reactions to egg. Severe immunodeficiency.
  • Hypersensitivity.
  • Patients with compromised immune system such as immunosuppressants, those on high-dose systemic corticosteroids or HIV positive.
  • Malignant disease being treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy and for at least 6 months after stopping treatment.

Precautions
