Imiquimod is commonly used topically to treat warts on the skin of the genital and anal areas. It is an immune response modifier acts as a receptor 7 toll-like agonist. Imiquimod does not cure warts, and new warts may appear during treatment. This is also used to treat actinic keratoses (a skin condition of the scalp and face). Imiquimod can also be used to treat superficial basal cell carcinoma (type of skin cancer).
Topical: Apply a thin layer of this cream 2 times per week for 16 weeks.
For the treatment of nonhypertrophic, nonhyperkeratotic external perianal and genital warts/condyloma acuminata actinic keratoses on the face or scalp in immunocompetent adults.
Severe swelling, urination problems, cold sores, fever, blisters, vaginal discharge, nausea, diarrhoea, blisters, changes in treated skin, mild skin irritation, flaking, scabbing, crusting, hardening and dryness.

This drug is contraindicated in patients with immune dysfunctions, skin problems, autoimmune disorders, sunburns, organ transplanted patients, GVHD.
