It is administered intravenously in a dose of 5 mg/kg on day 1, second week, sixth week, and then after every 6 weeks.
Prescribed for the treatment of psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn’s disease.
Infliximab can cause jaundice-like reactions, night sweats, fatigue, numbness or tingling, infections, easy bruising, epigastric pain, convulsions, vision changes, unexplained satiety, painful micturition, flushing, myalgia, cough, mild skin rashes, abdominal pain and headache.
Infliximab may interact with vaccines like BCG (Bacille-Calmette Guerin), psoriasis medications including phototherapy, mercaptopurine and azathioprine.
Contraindicated in patients with seizures, immune disorders, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, recent infections, and other heart problems, Guillain-Barre syndrome, COPD or history of cancer.
