Actions

Inositol nicotinate mediates a vasodilatory, lipid-lowering and fibrinolytic effect on the cardiovascular system. It is a lipid-regulating agent, reduces the levels of apoB (atherogenic apolipoprotein B)-containing lipoproteins (VLDL, LDL and lipoprotein a), plasma triglycerides while increasing antiatherogenic apoA-I-containing HDL levels.

Dosage/Dosage form

The recommended oral daily dosage is 1500-4000 mg of Inositol nicotinate in 2-4 divided doses.

Therapeutic uses

Indicated as a dietary supplement for the source of niacin.

Interaction

  • Moderate level of drug interact was reported with anticoagulants, salicylates, transdermal nicotine patches, statins and NSAIDs.
  • This drug can interact with pioglitazone, glimepiride, insulin and tolbutamide (anti-diabetic drugs).

Contraindications

This is contraindicated in patients with gallbladder disorders, bleeding disorders, gout, allergies, hypotension, angina, peptic ulcer with or without perforations, CAD and diabetes.
