Prescribed for the treatment of iodine deficiency disorders, pre-operative reduction of vascularity of thyroid glands, protection against radioactive iodine, cutaneous or lymphocutaneous sporotrichosis, Grave’s disease, cleaning of minor or superficial wounds, thyroid storm and cleaning of wet wounds and ulcers.
Fever, allergic reactions, pain or weakness in hands or feet. Confusion and unusual tiredness. Swelling of neck, throat or salivary glands.
Iodine can interact with potassium supplements, anti-thyroid drugs, lithium salts and potassium-sparing diuretics.
This is contraindicated in tuberculosis infections, renal impaired patients, nodular goitre, acute bronchitis and hypocomplementemic vasculitis.
