Dosage/Dosage form

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth.

Therapeutic uses

For the treatment of hypertension, as well as diabetic nephropathy with an elevated serum creatinine and proteinuria (>300 mg/day) in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension. This is also used in the treatment of congestive heart failure as a second line agent.

Adverse effects/Side effects

Diarrhoea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, hyperkalaemia. Dyspepsia, oedema, myalgia, insomnia, nasal congestion, 1st dose orthostatic hypotension, rash, pharyngitis, urticaria, angioedema, anxiety/nervousness, tachycardia.

Interaction

Potassium or potassium-sparing diuretics may increase risk of hyperkalaemia. NSAIDs may reduce antihypertensive response. Excretion of lithium may be reduced, monitor lithium concentrations.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity; pregnancy and lactation
