Dosage/Dosage form

The recommended dose is 5 mg twice daily. Increase if necessary to 7.5 mg twice daily after 3-4 weeks. It may be reduced up to 2.5-5 mg twice daily if needed.

Therapeutic uses

This medication is a cardio tonic agent, prescribed for angina pectoris. It helps to lower the heart rate

Adverse effects/Side effects

Slow heart rate, palpitations, heart block, abnormal heart rhythm, difficulty in breathing and fainting. Muscle cramps and muscle weakness.

Interaction

  • Ivrbradine may interact with St. John’s Wort and other similar herbs.
  • Ivabradine may interact with Amiodarone, cisapride, erythromycin, sotalol, antipsychotics, anti-fungal drugs, calcium-channel blockers, rifampicin, phenobarbital, macrolide antibiotics, protease inhibitors (anti-retroviral drugs), phenytoin, nefazodone and anti-malarial drugs.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with running nose, hepatic impairment, hypertension, allergy, arrhythmia, atrial flutter and fluctuating ocular pressure.
