Dosage/Dosage form

It is administered as a single oral dose therapy. 

  • The recommended dose for Onchocerciasis is 150mcg/kg body weight.
  • Strongyloidiasis- The recommended dose is 200mcg/kg/ body weight. 

Therapeutic uses

  • This medication is an anthelmintic, prescribed for certain parasitic roundworm infection such as Strongyloidiasis and Onchocerciasis.  
  • Can be used to treat scabies caused by Sarcoptes scabiei

Adverse effects/Side effects

Cough, diarrhoea, postural hypotension, nausea, heahache, vomiting, utricaria, dizziness, pruritus, rash, arthralgia, fever, myalgia, asthenia, tachycardia, oedema, lymphadenopathy, sore throat, somnolence, transient eosinophilia, raised liver enzyme values.

Interaction

Bioavailability may be increased by alcohol, levamisole

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy & lactation.
