Dosage/Dosage form

IV/IM/SC- The usual recommended adult dose is 10 mg for a 70 kg individual.

Therapeutic uses

For the relief of moderate to severe pain such as post-surgery pain and labor pain.

Adverse effects/Side effects

Speech difficulty, urinary urgency, depression, blurred vision, flushing and warmth, nervousness, restlessness, elevated mood, crying, hostility, floating, unusual dreams, confusion, faintness, hallucinations, anxiety, feeling of heaviness, numbness, tingling. 

Interaction

  • Alcohol consumption may boost the adverse events of nalbuphine.
  • Avoid concomitant treatment of Nalbuphine with sedatives, anti-histamines, narcotic pain relievers, muscle relaxants, anxiolytics, anti-convulsants, anti-depressants and hypnotics.
  • Other drugs may interact with nalbuphine such as methadone, oxycodone, fentanyl, morphine, hydrocodone, codeine and hydromorphone.

Contraindications

COPD, traumatic head injury, liver or kidney diseases, brain tumor, asthma, sepsis, gallbladder diseases and psychiatric disorders.
