Dosage/Dosage form

The recommended dose for 

  • Adults: I M is 50-200 mg/week.
  • Children: I M 25-50 mg every 3-4 weeks.

Therapeutic uses

  • Nandrolone is an anabolic steroid, prescribed for anemia caused by kidney problems. The kidney normally produces a hormone called erythropoietin which is necessary for the production of red blood cells.
  • Nandrolone has also been used in the treatment of bone thinning or osteoporosis.
  •  The drug is often misused by athletes to increase muscle mass.

Adverse effects/Side effects

Acne, gynaecomastia, bladder irritability, priapism, insomnia, chills, decreased libido, chills, hepatic dysfunction, nausea, diarrhoea, prostatic hyperplasia, virilism, hyperpigmentation, hypercalcaemia, iron deficiency anaemia, hepatic dysfunction.

Interaction

May increase effects of oral anticoagulants, insulin, oral antidiabetic agents, adrenal steroid, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH).

Contraindications

Prostatic or breast carcinoma (male); nephrosis, porphyria; infants, pregnancy and lactation.
