Rifaximin is a structural analog of rifampin and a non-systemic, gastrointestinal site-specific antibiotic. This non-systemic property of the drug is due to the addition of a pyridoimidazole ring, which renders it non-absorbable.
Chest pain, uneasiness, weakness, and hot flashes. Constipation, abdominal distension, vomiting, dry throat, diarrhea, fecal abnormality, hernia, gingival disorder, dry lips, stomach discomfort, dysentery, blood in stool, loss of appetite, loss of taste.
Contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic diseases, watery or bloody diarrhoea, diarrhoea with underlying pyrexia.
Store at 20-25°C.
