Actions

This drug will inhibit the osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and modulates bone metabolism and is indicated for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

For the treatment of Paget's disease of the bone (osteitis deformans), postmenopausal and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis

Adverse effects/Side effects

Electrolyte disturbances; GI disturbances; musculoskeletal pain; headache; hypersensitivity reactions; blood disorders; liver enzyme disturbances. Bone, joint and/or muscle pain.

Interaction

  • Co-admin with calcium, antacids or oral medications containing divalent cations may affect the absorption of risedronate.
  • May have additive calcium lowering effects when used with aminoglycosides.

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy
  • Acute upper GI inflammation,
  • Hypocalcaemia
