Dosage/Dosage form

  • 8-16 mg/day as IV/IM
  • Per tab contains 10mg of valethamate and 325 mg of paracetamol as PO.

Therapeutic uses

It is an antispasmodic agent, Used for the treatment of Dysmenorrhoea, Postoperative pain, Visceral spasms, Gastrointestinal tract spasm, Tenesmus, Urinary tract and bile stone colic. 

Adverse effects/Side effects

Dry mouth, blurring of vision, difficulty in swallowing and talking, constipation, urinary retention, mydriasis, arrhythmias.

Interaction

  • Increased antimuscarinic side effects with drugs with antimuscarinic properties e.g. amantadine, antihistamines, phenothiazide antipsychotics, TCAs.
  • Delayed gastric emptying reduces absorption of other drugs.
  • Antagonise GI effects of domperidone, metoclopramide. 

Contraindications

  • Narrow angle glaucoma, benign prostatic hyperplasia, paralytic ileus, pyloric stenosis, ulcerative colitis, megacolon, and tachyarrhythmia.
  • Severe hepatic and renal impairment.
